Stay; For Life will be hosting a free ‘Guys Only’ Fishing Event.  This event will be rain or shine, chem-free, hot dogs and drinks provided, catch and release, bring your own pole and gear (though extras will be available), all ages welcome (under 18 must have male guardian present).  Current and valid Maine state fishing license is required (visit www.maine.gov/ifw) 

Directions to “Chase’s Pit” on Bragdon Road in Wells: Navigate to Swamp John Road in Wells.  Go to the end, where Swamp John Road meets Bragdon Road.  Turn left, go 0.1 mile, turn right through gate into gravel pit.  Stay; For Life signs will help mark the way.

Why?
As you know, Stay; For Life supports mental health and suicide prevention for everyone, AND we give extra attention to men’s mental health. This fishing event isn’t a “mental health” event. It’s merely an opportunity for guys to get together and hang out. Simply meet other guys, or build friendships that may already exist. “Self care”, if you will. All the while fortifying their support network. That’s it. Pretty simple.

Why “guys only”? It can be incredibly important for men to have opportunities to connect with other men for support. Creating the event in this way sets everyone up for success in being able to concentrate on their mental well-being and building their support network. Stay; Man to Man Peer Support Groups and other ‘guys only’ events we have hosted in the past are all testament that it’s important to make room for ‘guys time’.
